PUBLICITY by joe

My approach to publicity is intimate, hands-on and tailored to your work’s specific genre and intent.

I focus on review blogs, podcasts, small-press reviews, word of mouth and engagement in the literary community, rather than chasing that one big review or endorsement. My overall aim is to find an audience for your work and to be heard over the din.

Getting your book read, reviewed and talked about is a job that needs constant daily maintenance. A slow burn of engagement with readers, reviews and the odd targeted advertisement is important. But more than that, you need to communicate your words, your story. To this end I prioritise interviews both in print and via podcasts, so that you can talk authoritatively about your book. Remember, it’s you that readers want to hear from!

The internet is an ever-mutating marketplace; a lot of techniques for reaching potential fans can get great results one day and stop working the next. Genre by genre, and platform by platform, books find their home only through steady pitching and engagement.

Make no mistake, this is a full-time job. A lot of self-published writers find that they can run the risk of burnout maintaining their online presence and pitching for publicity opportunities all the while trying to find the time to stay creative. Above all else, a dedicated publicist takes the pressure off you, the writer, from having to dedicate time to this stuff, and from having to research and maintain databases yourself.

I bring my network, background knowledge and research, you bring the words.

In keeping with this grassroots, independent approach, my campaign costs are significantly lower than most you will find — about half, by my reckoning.
