Poetry is back
The current renaissance in the creation and appreciation of poems is seeing people from all backgrounds expressing thoughts, feelings, emotions and opinions through verse.
Rhyming, unstructured, tender, furious, compact, epic — all bets are off. Every lived experience is a poem waiting to be written.
Poetry is being published again, poetry is being read.
And, as with all writing, it can benefit from a careful process of polishing and editing. However, unlike more traditional prose, poems can sometimes be strange unwieldy things... raw, visceral inspiration fighting against clarity of communication.
Finding the balance between these two elements is the trick.
The job of a poetry mentor/editor is to help find this balance; to clearly and cleanly communicate the message without muddiness of meaning, and without sacrificing the vision and original voice of the poet themselves.
I can offer an initial impression and evaluation of your work, suggest ways that it might be improved, and/or, if requested, proceed to editing (either an overall structural edit or copy edit, which focuses on the language) and proofreading.
Whether you are writing just for yourself, or for potential publication, let’s make your poetry the best it can be. Even if you just need another pair of eyes, a second opinion or test reader …
